Change one variable at a time

I like my medical professional who's helping me set up the pump, but I wish she'd listen to me. She's so sure she's right, but I'm the one who has been enduring a hyper for most of the day. At lunch time she wanted to decrease the carb ration and increase the sensitivity - ie: give me less insulin. Wonderful idea, except that at the current rates I'm burning up like a freakin' crisp. Pay attention would you?

Change one variable at a time, get the basal right, then get the bolus right, then get the correction right. That order, nothing else. My helper, in her learned wisdom, changed all three upon hooking me up. My idea was simple - let's just not eat food until we know the basal is right, then we can eat a meal and see exactly how far off the bolus is right, then we can attempt to correct it and see how far the correction is off - I'd have been done in one day.

But no, all three variables were changed. I believe the basal might be right, but I get hungry, so I have to eat, so then my bgl goes up again because I *know* the bolus is wrong. Arrgh. Prolonged hyper == dehydration == sore muscles and sports injuries from doing simple things.

Mood: Unhappy camper, not at the pump, but at the idiocy of the approach being taken to calibrate it
