Disaster struck, Wednesday

What's a travel story by me if something horrific didn't go wrong. Sometime on Monday I got infected by someone with some sort of flu cold thing. This made Monday evening pretty bad, as I couldn't sleep - which made Tuesday particularly bad as I had to give my presentation. But none of that compares to the day I had on Wednesday.

Wednesday was a double edged sword. Some things went horribly wrong, yet at the same time I got a lot of good quality time with some of my colleagues, I got my new MacBook Pro 17" and I made it to Walla Walla and had half a good nights sleep.

So, the good stuff stated.. let's talk the bad stuff. Tuesday night was a bust like Monday night was, which meant I was low on sleep by the time I finally did get up. I checked out that day as I was heading to Walla Walla, Washington with Travis Griggs.

In the process of doing this, I retrieved my medication from the hotel - I had asked them to put it in the fridge. Instead, they had frozen it. They had kindly written down that they had frozen it and therefore wouldn't cover the costs of destroying my life-saving medication.

$420 dollars later, I had replaced my ruined medication. Ouch.. very ouch. Normally medication costs me around $80 - because it's on prescription. A prescription from Australia doesn't mean anything except that it's proof that you should have said medication. That may not be the case here in the USA, but I wasn't going to risk going from Canada where I could buy some, in to the USA where they may just outright say no - okay, that's a long shot, but I wasn't willing to take the risk.

To top all this off, I spent a good hour in the morning searching my room, my bag, my backpack, my room, my bag, my backpack, my room, my bag, my backpack. That's right, I'd lost my passport. After a while, I was able to meditate on the problem and remember that I had been extra tricky in where I'd hidden it. So tricky, that not even I could find it. I had hidden it in a special spot in my bag.. so.. crisis over.

All is good again, I have my medication, I have my passport, I'm in Walla Walla - the hotel here - The Marcus Whitmore - it is fantastic. Very spacious apartments, nice facilities. The city itself seems very nice, I haven't walked around it much yet.

Ps: The hotel we stayed at in Toronto - the Strathcona - I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. It was cramped and had no facilities and they freeze your medication.
