My door opened.. it was the dog's ticket out of the room, but also the signalling herald for the cat to make its way from the kitchen to my window. My window has a special charm, it gives the cat a feeling of hiding in a large dose of weeds and still being able to spy on the birds which look oh-so yummy.
Unfortunately for the two animals, they must pass each other in the hallway. This is a fairly difficult time for both animals. For the dog, there is the fear that the cat will get upset at her being there and threaton to use a paw. For the cat, there is the fear that the dog will bark. This may not seem like such a huge worry, aside from the fact that it is loud and persistent, but when the cat first moved in she was greeted with constant barking right near her face for days on end. Subsequently, the cat does not like to be barked at.
The dogs reaction to this problem is to stop and stare at the cat to see what kind of mood she's in. The cat's reaction to this problem is to stirr up a fight by walking, not passed the dog, but towards the dog. of course, the dog's not going to move, that might cause the cat to lift up it's paw. So they awkwardly shuffle around each other until they are passed and the uncertainty is gone. But just to make sure there's no hard feelings, the dog gives the cat's butt a sniff.
